Boosting masculinity and confidence…

Last week we talked a little about scents men prefer and that often those are different from the scents women enjoy.

Scents are all around us. They are part of nature. So if you can find a scent that appeals to men and supports overall wellness and then include that scent in some amazing products that are used regularly, it would be a win-win! Right?

Gary Young from Young Living Essential Oils spent many years researching and working on that challenge! The result was a scent he called Shutran™, named after a fictional character in his book The One Gift.

Shutran™ is an empowering essential oil blend specially formulated for men to boost feelings of masculinity and confidence. It is perfect for use as a cologne that appeals to both men and women and is also the scent found in an entire line of products designed for men.

  • Essential Oil – Boosts feelings of masculinity
  • Bar Soap – Vegan-friendly, with a creamy lather
  • Shave Cream – Delivers close, smooth shave
  • After Shave Lotion – Freshens and calms your skin
  • Beard Oil – Softens and conditions your beard

Oh, and by the way, my husband does like Shutran™! And Shutran™products can make great gifts for the men in your life!

Stress reduction after surgery

I ran across a study that was actually done several years ago, but it caught my attention, so I decided to share it with you.

This study suggests that intraoperative music may decrease postoperative pain, and that postoperative music therapy may reduce anxiety, pain and morphine consumption. Click here for the abstract. The music that was used in the study was calming, soothing music, and the result was that there was a significantly greater decrease in the level of cortisol in the postoperative music group vs. the control group. Participants reported less pain and a lower need for morphine.

I got to thinking that if music alone had this much benefit, what would happen if soothing music was combined with the use of essential oils?

I remember when I had an MRI, I took along my own CD with some of my favorite soothing music. And I applied some essential oil to my neck area, temples, and over my heart. I was very peaceful throughout the time it took for the MRI.

What oils would be good ones to try? Well, everyone has their favorites in oils that calm them, just like everyone has their favorite genre of music. But I am thinking that stimulating music would be counterproductive to the relaxation objective in most cases. The same would be true for essential oils. For that reason, I would personally select from a list that could include Stress Away, Peace and Calming, Lavender, German Chamomile, Tranquil, Cedarwood, Valor, etc. The list will vary depending on your individual personality, what you might have available to you, etc.

So if you find yourself facing surgery, you might want to pack some tunes and some oils in your hospital bag! And I wish you a speedy recovery.

Hidden Viral Gene in GMO crops

There is a lot of controversy surrounding GMO crops. People are becoming aware of the term GMO, but sadly, most don’t really understand the dangers. They also think the government would not allow something dangerous to continue on the market.

But recently a study has identified a genetic sequence in commercial GMOs that encodes a significant fragment of a viral gene called Cauliflower mosaic virus (CaMV) (AKA Gene VI). Gene VI affects RNA sequencing. It interferes with plant’s ability to resist disease.

Cauliflower Mosaic Virus

Cauliflower mosaic virus

This is of significant concern to people because the targets of Gene VI in plants are also found in humans. This certainly raises a lot of red flags in my mind. Could GMO “food” be contributing to what seems to be an increase in people being susceptible to more illness? Makes me wonder!

Also, makes me thankful that Young Living Essential Oils is extremely vigilant in being sure of the source of all seeds used to grow the plants that are used to produce their essential oils. Gives new meaning to the thought “know the source” in my mind!

Dental Anxiety

Pediatric Dental Anxiety Alleviated by Orange Essential Oil

Dental fear and anxiety cause many adults to neglect their oral health by avoiding trips to the dentist. If adults suffer that much from these fears, just think how intimidating the sound of a drill can be for a child.

Three Iranian researchers at the Department of Pediatric Dentistry and Torabinezad Dental Research Center wrote in a 2013 study, “There are anxiety-provoking factors in a dental setting, such as the sights (needles), sounds (drilling), smells (cut dentine [a tooth component], eugenol), and sensation (high frequency vibration).”

The researchers have reviewed 42 studies that discuss aromatherapy in relation to dentistry such as “Effects of psychological state on pain perception in the dental environment” and “Dental anxiety in children and its relationship to dental caries and gingival condition.”

The authors of this study investigated the essential oil preferences of children. They reported that children are very different from adults in their odors and taste preferences and they are likely to use essential oils they find pleasant.”

CONCLUSION:

It seems that the use of aromatherapy with natural essential oil of orange could reduce salivary cortisol and pulse rate due to child anxiety state.
