Keeping your baby clean and dry

Keeping your infant clean and comfortable can be a challenge sometimes! Well, OK, lots of times. If you are a parent of a newborn, you know how challenging a “blow-out” can be! Sometimes you have to bring out the big guns to clean up the mess!

Have you thought about what chemicals are in the disposable wipes you are using? And for that matter, are you sure they are leaving your baby’s skin clean and protected?

Young Living Seedlings has two wonderful products you are going to fall in love with immediately.

Seedlings Wipes are generously sized for the biggest messes at feeding or diapering time. They smell great and are 100% safe for your baby’s skin.

And then there is the Seedings Diaper Rash Cream. It is registered with the FDA as an Over The Counter medication, and does an amazing job at relieving, preventing and treating diaper rash.

And on a side note, both these products are great for everyone in the family. I love the Wipes for removing makeup. The Diaper Rash Cream will soothe and protect the most sensitive areas of any body, no matter what age! I do love how versatile Young Living’s products are. Seriously, you really need to get them!

I have published a special newsletter called Seedings: From Mother Nature’s Nursery to Yours. If you don’t have a copy of it, please send me an email and request the Seedling newsletter by name! You’ll love all the information it contains and will want to keep it for future reference.

Let’s talk about babies!

We want the best for the little ones in our lives. We want our babies to be safe, healthy and happy.

Do you ever wonder about the products you use on your baby’s skin? Did you know that it only takes 26 seconds for the chemicals you put on your child’s skin to enter the bloodstream?

Young Living cares deeply about the health of your entire family, including the youngest to the oldest. That’s why the Seedlings line of products was developed. You can be assured that the quality of this line is the best, and you can trust these products to go on even your precious newborn!

I am so thankful for Young Living’s commitment to give us safe products of the highest quality, backed by solid up-to-date scientific research.

This month we will focus on products and oils for infants. But keep in mind that as we age, the skin becomes more vulnerable, so you may also find some nuggets to keep in mind when also caring for the elderly members of your family.

First, let’s take a look at what is NOT in the Young Living Seedlings products. They are free from alcohol, parabens, phthalates petrochemicals, animal-derived ingredients, synthetic preservatives, synthetic fragrances or synthetic dyes. All these ingredients have the potential to cause a lifetime of health challenges. Is that what you want for your little one?

I encourage you to pick any three products you currently use on your baby and read the label. What ingredients do you find that could be harmful to yourself or your child? If you are unsure, make a note of the Environmental Working Group’s website where you can look up ingredients and how they rate for safety. Be sure to also check their Skin Deep page.

Do your homework and check our next post to discover the wonderful products Young Living has to offer. If you have questions please contact me at joyce@ShareScents.com.

Back to School Dental Check-ups

Dental Checkup anxiety

As summer begins to wind down, many families begin preparations for their children to go back to school. Often this routine includes a dental check-up. Many children have a certain amount of anxiety associated with going to see the dentist.

Recently I read a short article in the April 2014 issue of Natural Awakenings Magazine (page 10) describing a study where aromatherapy was used to test whether it could help reduce anxiety associated with visits to the dental office. The study revealed that children receiving orange oil aromatherapy experienced significantly reduced heart rates, and lower salivary cortisol levels compared to those who did not receive the aromatherapy. The findings corroborated findings from a 2000 study done in Austria.

A couple of thoughts came to mind. Young Living carries orange essential oil and it is very inexpensive. Orange oil is also one of the ingredients in the Peace & Calming blend. You may want to check out these options for your child’s (or yours, for that matter!) next dental visit!

Becoming a Great Grandma

Pretending to sleep

Every parent wants the very best for their children and grandchildren. My mom used to “play possum” as we used to call it!  She would do this when she wanted to eaves drop on what we were talking about or doing. I know now as a parent that she was simply using it as a tool to be the best mom she could be.

When I learned I will be a Great-Grandmother this fall, I was so excited! Now the excitement is building as the final two months count down! My granddaughter is without question one of two of the MOST beautiful granddaughters in the world! Now I know some grammas will argue that fact, but they will have to get past this grammy!

OK so back to what was on my mind!  I have equipped my granddaughter with a few goodies during her pregnancy. Most recently I sent her Young Living’s Gentle Baby blend. And a special book called “Gentle Babies” by Debra Raybern. If you are a grandma, mother or caring friend, these are two things I highly recommend you check out!

I have lots of great information besides this about pregnancy and babies, so feel free to contact me with any questions. And if you have any experiences to share about how Young Living products have helped your little ones, please share with us all!

Baby formula

Source: GreenMedInfo.com

Is the baby formula you are using safe? You might want to take another look. But looking at the label is not a guarantee of safety.

Sayer Ji of GreenMedInfo recently said this:  “The USDA organic label is supposed to protect the consumer against GMOs and avoidable chemical exposures, but the sobering fact is that USDA-certified infant formula manufacturers are not only being allowed to use a pesticide in their formulas, but are advertising it as a ‘healthy’ mineral to unsuspecting consumers.”

He goes on to say, “Surprisingly, all that regulators do is ensure that those ingredients are there in the amounts deemed necessary, and that some basic quality control measures are followed during the manufacturing process.”

A recent review summarized the U.S. rules as follows:

“Infant formula, like no other food, is regulated by its own law, the Infant Formula Act of 1980 as amended in 1986. The act sets lower limits on 29 nutrients (so-called “table nutrients” because they appear in table form. U.S. Code of Federal Regulations 21 CFR 107.100). . . . Manufacturers are required to follow “good manufacturing practice,” but no requirement for sterility is specified. . . . Powdered formula is not guaranteed, nor required to be free of pathogenic organism” (Baker, 2002).

If our babies are not protected in their critical first months, what health issues will they face as they mature?  What are you doing to protect your health and that of your children and grandchildren?

It’s questions like these that confirm in my mind how important it is to buy products from companies that have full disclosure of their ingredients. I am proud to be associated with Young Living Essential Oils. It is a company I can trust and recommend without reservation.
