My personal care favorites

In the past few articles we have discussed some things to consider when caring for our skin. We talked about things like chemicals that can derail us in our health and beauty journey. We also looked at some essential oils that many women have found helpful to add a glow to their face.

If you think about it, Queen Esther soaked in Myrrh for six months and then other spices and oils were added to the regimen for another six months! REALLY? Yes, really! And the result was, she won the most famous beauty contest of all time!

Now I must admit that for many years I have been on a wellness journey that demanded I focus on internal health. So dedicating dollars to beautify my face and skin was a lower priority… Just being real here.

But ladies, there is nothing wrong with giving some attention to caring for our skin. After all, it is your body’s first line of defense. It is your largest organ and is as much as 15% or more of your total body weight.

Caring for your skin is important. So why not use the very best products available? Here is a very short list of my some of my favorite skin care products from Young Living Essential Oils. They are highly concentrated and therefore, very economical over the long road.  These are only a handful of the many awesome products available. You can visit my website and read my Women’s Personal Care newsletter to learn more, but this is a great place to start:

  • ART® Skin Care System (cleanser, moisturizer and toner)
  • ART® Renewal Serum
  • Sheerlumé™ Brightening Cream
  • Genesis Hand & Body Lotion
  • Rose Ointment
  • L Brianté™ Lip Gloss

Beauty beneath the surface

Every woman wants to look good. NO. Every woman wants to look AMAZING!

We pour money into products to cover up our flaws and accent our best qualities. We long to gaze in the mirror and have it answer back that we are the fairest of them all. Well, let me share a couple of secrets with you.

First, beauty is not skin deep. It starts inside our bodies. What we put IN our bodies will ultimately determine the glow on our skin. I always tell people that if you are having challenges on the surface of your skin, you should probably take a look under the hood. Talk to your healthcare professional about what might be the root cause of your problems. Keep feeding your body healthy food. Get moving (exercise, UGH!). Clean up your environment. And eliminate as many harmful ingredients from your personal care regimen as possible.

THEN you are ready to add healthy options for skin care. My Women’s Personal Care newsletter has some great suggestions to consider, so get a copy and see where you might be able to augment your beauty care stash!

Would you love to have glowing skin? Well, check out this list of some amazing essential oils that are simple to use and produce amazing results. Here is the trick. You are going to want to identify what type of skin you have. Then, pick a few essential oils that address your particular needs. Next combine just one drop of two or three of the oils you selected with an organic oil like jojoba or coconut oil (say 50/50) and gently massage them onto your face each night at bedtime. You will be amazed at the results.

So here is a very short list (There is a longer list in the newsletter):

  • Lavender (cleanse)
  • Geranium (hydrate)
  • Frankincense (smooth fine lines)
  • Sandalwood (balance)
  • Myrrh (just plain good!)

Looking beyond the label

Everyone knows that the things we put in and on our bodies have an impact on our health. The problem is, often we are clueless to know what we are consuming. If we resort to reading labels, we can quickly become discouraged by the big words we see in little very tiny print! I mean really… Like what exactly is Benzalkonium Chloride anyway? And does it even matter? And why is it such tiny print?

I have actually looked up some of these big words and it really depressed me. I found out that a lot of the common ingredients in personal care products could be causing all sorts of problems in my body. Cancer. Weight gain. Mood swings. Headaches. Digestive issues. Rashes, and more. But it seemed like certain ones that are proven to be harmful are in pretty much all these types of products.

And to add insult to injury, then I found out that because of “trade secrets” not all ingredients even have to be listed on the labels, or they can use vague terms like “fragrance” to hide the truth from you of what is in there.

So how do I know what really is in the bottle I am buying? There are a lot of lists out there of ingredients to avoid in our home and personal care products. I have included a partial list (along with some of the challenges these ingredients bring to our bodies) in my Women’s Personal Care newsletter, so just get your mitts on a copy and you will be amazed!

But I digress. This rude awakening about ingredients that could be creating problems in my body led me on a search for companies that provide “full disclosure” and that hold to the highest ethical standards and integrity.

I continually update my list of companies that I trust, but one company continues to hold the top position on my list. That is Young Living Essential Oils. I have been using their products for 18 years now and I just feel better and better all the time! Not only does Young Living offer essential oils, but their extensive product line includes powerful supplements, nutrition and food items, home and personal care products and more. It’s like one-stop shopping I can trust and quite economical in the long run. And trust me, I’m in this for a long run!

I challenge you to check out my newsletter and website and see what I discovered long ago. Then let’s have a conversation.

Solving the health puzzle

For the next few weeks I intend to focus on women’s health and beauty in my writings. So in order to give you some background on why this topic is dear to my heart, let me take a few moments to tell you a little about myself and what led me to the place I am at today.

All my life I have wrestled with health challenges of various types. I have consulted with health professionals of all types. Sometimes I would be helped, but mostly I would actually experience major problems, some created by the treatments or medications I was receiving. Yet deep inside I held tight to the belief that there were answers someplace out there and so I continued to study and learn.

One bit if information would lead to another. As time passed, I came to believe that natural health held keys that I was looking for. And so for over 40 years I studied natural remedies and treatment methods. I learned about herbs. I learned about food. I learned about how the body is designed to function, and things that create problems for us in this journey.

I observed how I felt when I ate certain things or used certain products, and started to clean up my lifestyle. Eventually I could identify patterns and make changes that started to impact my body in positive ways.

No, I am not somebody special. I am just like you. I want to be healthy. I want to be happy. I want to look good. Yes, I fall off the wagon many times. But I have discovered that there are lots of people just like us; people who feel there is a better way and are looking for answers. I have made many friends along the way. I hope you will be one of those friends and join me this month as we explore the topic of women’s health and how it relates to skin care.

A great place to start would be to request a copy of my special newsletter that talks about women’s personal care products. Just send me an email and request the Women’s Personal Care newsletter. Let’s see what pieces to this wellness puzzle we can find together!
