Keeping your baby clean and dry

Keeping your infant clean and comfortable can be a challenge sometimes! Well, OK, lots of times. If you are a parent of a newborn, you know how challenging a “blow-out” can be! Sometimes you have to bring out the big guns to clean up the mess!

Have you thought about what chemicals are in the disposable wipes you are using? And for that matter, are you sure they are leaving your baby’s skin clean and protected?

Young Living Seedlings has two wonderful products you are going to fall in love with immediately.

Seedlings Wipes are generously sized for the biggest messes at feeding or diapering time. They smell great and are 100% safe for your baby’s skin.

And then there is the Seedings Diaper Rash Cream. It is registered with the FDA as an Over The Counter medication, and does an amazing job at relieving, preventing and treating diaper rash.

And on a side note, both these products are great for everyone in the family. I love the Wipes for removing makeup. The Diaper Rash Cream will soothe and protect the most sensitive areas of any body, no matter what age! I do love how versatile Young Living’s products are. Seriously, you really need to get them!

I have published a special newsletter called Seedings: From Mother Nature’s Nursery to Yours. If you don’t have a copy of it, please send me an email and request the Seedling newsletter by name! You’ll love all the information it contains and will want to keep it for future reference.

Seedlings Baby Oil

One of the first products your baby receives in a gift basket at the hospital is Baby Oil. Did you do your homework and discover what ingredients it contains that you probably don’t want to be putting on your newborn (or yourself, for that matter)?

In contrast, Young Living’s Seedlings Baby Oil is formulated specially for an infant’s delicate skin. This mild, gentle product contains 100 percent pure essential oils diluted to an appropriate strength, and its naturally derived, plant-based formula is lightly scented with our Calm blend of Lavender, Coriander, Bergamot, Ylang Ylang, and Geranium. Check the ingredient list to see how it compares to the other brand. Go back to the Environmental Working Group’s website and I know you will be pleasantly surprised at how clean the Seedlings Baby Oil really is!

The non-greasy formula moisturizes, soothes, and nourishes a baby’s skin. It absorbs smoothly; provides a light, calm aroma; and promotes a relaxing environment. Formulated without mineral oil, it is vegan friendly and suitable for everyday use. It is also dermatologist tested and hypoallergenic.

Seedlings Baby Oil is formulated with “dry” carrier oils that moisturize and absorb quickly and thoroughly into the skin, leaving a baby’s skin soft, hydrated, and smooth after applying.

Establishing a bedtime routine is very important in helping your baby get used to and look forward to restful sleep. Seedlings Baby Oil can be applied using baby massage techniques for sweet bonding with your little one.

Let’s talk about babies!

We want the best for the little ones in our lives. We want our babies to be safe, healthy and happy.

Do you ever wonder about the products you use on your baby’s skin? Did you know that it only takes 26 seconds for the chemicals you put on your child’s skin to enter the bloodstream?

Young Living cares deeply about the health of your entire family, including the youngest to the oldest. That’s why the Seedlings line of products was developed. You can be assured that the quality of this line is the best, and you can trust these products to go on even your precious newborn!

I am so thankful for Young Living’s commitment to give us safe products of the highest quality, backed by solid up-to-date scientific research.

This month we will focus on products and oils for infants. But keep in mind that as we age, the skin becomes more vulnerable, so you may also find some nuggets to keep in mind when also caring for the elderly members of your family.

First, let’s take a look at what is NOT in the Young Living Seedlings products. They are free from alcohol, parabens, phthalates petrochemicals, animal-derived ingredients, synthetic preservatives, synthetic fragrances or synthetic dyes. All these ingredients have the potential to cause a lifetime of health challenges. Is that what you want for your little one?

I encourage you to pick any three products you currently use on your baby and read the label. What ingredients do you find that could be harmful to yourself or your child? If you are unsure, make a note of the Environmental Working Group’s website where you can look up ingredients and how they rate for safety. Be sure to also check their Skin Deep page.

Do your homework and check our next post to discover the wonderful products Young Living has to offer. If you have questions please contact me at joyce@ShareScents.com.

Outdoor Essentials

I live in northern Minnesota, so my tan fades… that is if I get one at all with our short summers! I tend to burn easily and peal if I am out too long. Also, when I do go outside, often I am greeted by lots of little “annoyances” that make me want to take cover! BZZZZ!

So skin comfort is a big deal to me when I am outside.

Last week Young Living introduced three amazing products to enhance our outdoor experiences. These are Mineral Sunscreen Lotion, Lavaderm After Sun Spray, and Insect Repellent. I will receive these products today and and so excited to try them.

All are totally safe, free of any harmful chemicals, and tested and proven to be effective. In fact, the insect repellent was tested against the leading brand and found to be more effective and without DEET!  It is EPA approved. The Sun products are classified as OTC (over the counter) medications and once again, completely free of any harmful chemicals! The After Sun Spray can be used to treat burns as well as sunburn. The Sunscreen provides protection from multiple types of UV rays and waterproof for up to 80 minutes. It provides protection for 10 hours in the sun.

Once again, Young Living Essential Oils has done the research and given us a product that is safe, effective, and one I am sure you will use and love!

If you want to learn more about them, please contact me, since these are brand new products and I will be testing them out in the coming days!

In my newsletter called Oils On The Go, I share some other suggestions for making your sun and fun time better. And you will also find some important tips about sun sensitivity when using essential oils.

My personal care favorites

In the past few articles we have discussed some things to consider when caring for our skin. We talked about things like chemicals that can derail us in our health and beauty journey. We also looked at some essential oils that many women have found helpful to add a glow to their face.

If you think about it, Queen Esther soaked in Myrrh for six months and then other spices and oils were added to the regimen for another six months! REALLY? Yes, really! And the result was, she won the most famous beauty contest of all time!

Now I must admit that for many years I have been on a wellness journey that demanded I focus on internal health. So dedicating dollars to beautify my face and skin was a lower priority… Just being real here.

But ladies, there is nothing wrong with giving some attention to caring for our skin. After all, it is your body’s first line of defense. It is your largest organ and is as much as 15% or more of your total body weight.

Caring for your skin is important. So why not use the very best products available? Here is a very short list of my some of my favorite skin care products from Young Living Essential Oils. They are highly concentrated and therefore, very economical over the long road.  These are only a handful of the many awesome products available. You can visit my website and read my Women’s Personal Care newsletter to learn more, but this is a great place to start:

  • ART® Skin Care System (cleanser, moisturizer and toner)
  • ART® Renewal Serum
  • Sheerlumé™ Brightening Cream
  • Genesis Hand & Body Lotion
  • Rose Ointment
  • L Brianté™ Lip Gloss

Beauty beneath the surface

Every woman wants to look good. NO. Every woman wants to look AMAZING!

We pour money into products to cover up our flaws and accent our best qualities. We long to gaze in the mirror and have it answer back that we are the fairest of them all. Well, let me share a couple of secrets with you.

First, beauty is not skin deep. It starts inside our bodies. What we put IN our bodies will ultimately determine the glow on our skin. I always tell people that if you are having challenges on the surface of your skin, you should probably take a look under the hood. Talk to your healthcare professional about what might be the root cause of your problems. Keep feeding your body healthy food. Get moving (exercise, UGH!). Clean up your environment. And eliminate as many harmful ingredients from your personal care regimen as possible.

THEN you are ready to add healthy options for skin care. My Women’s Personal Care newsletter has some great suggestions to consider, so get a copy and see where you might be able to augment your beauty care stash!

Would you love to have glowing skin? Well, check out this list of some amazing essential oils that are simple to use and produce amazing results. Here is the trick. You are going to want to identify what type of skin you have. Then, pick a few essential oils that address your particular needs. Next combine just one drop of two or three of the oils you selected with an organic oil like jojoba or coconut oil (say 50/50) and gently massage them onto your face each night at bedtime. You will be amazed at the results.

So here is a very short list (There is a longer list in the newsletter):

  • Lavender (cleanse)
  • Geranium (hydrate)
  • Frankincense (smooth fine lines)
  • Sandalwood (balance)
  • Myrrh (just plain good!)

Looking beyond the label

Everyone knows that the things we put in and on our bodies have an impact on our health. The problem is, often we are clueless to know what we are consuming. If we resort to reading labels, we can quickly become discouraged by the big words we see in little very tiny print! I mean really… Like what exactly is Benzalkonium Chloride anyway? And does it even matter? And why is it such tiny print?

I have actually looked up some of these big words and it really depressed me. I found out that a lot of the common ingredients in personal care products could be causing all sorts of problems in my body. Cancer. Weight gain. Mood swings. Headaches. Digestive issues. Rashes, and more. But it seemed like certain ones that are proven to be harmful are in pretty much all these types of products.

And to add insult to injury, then I found out that because of “trade secrets” not all ingredients even have to be listed on the labels, or they can use vague terms like “fragrance” to hide the truth from you of what is in there.

So how do I know what really is in the bottle I am buying? There are a lot of lists out there of ingredients to avoid in our home and personal care products. I have included a partial list (along with some of the challenges these ingredients bring to our bodies) in my Women’s Personal Care newsletter, so just get your mitts on a copy and you will be amazed!

But I digress. This rude awakening about ingredients that could be creating problems in my body led me on a search for companies that provide “full disclosure” and that hold to the highest ethical standards and integrity.

I continually update my list of companies that I trust, but one company continues to hold the top position on my list. That is Young Living Essential Oils. I have been using their products for 18 years now and I just feel better and better all the time! Not only does Young Living offer essential oils, but their extensive product line includes powerful supplements, nutrition and food items, home and personal care products and more. It’s like one-stop shopping I can trust and quite economical in the long run. And trust me, I’m in this for a long run!

I challenge you to check out my newsletter and website and see what I discovered long ago. Then let’s have a conversation.
