Oil pulling made easy

Oil Pulling

Oil pulling is an ancient Indian tradition that recently has received a lot of attention.

Traditionally, you simply swish an oil in your mouth, making sure to “pull” it between your teeth. You do this for about 20 minutes and then spit it out, making sure not to swallow the liquid. The idea is that the oil will “pull” toxins out of the mouth and that you should not swallow this, and thus ingest those toxins for your liver to have to process.

Many people will use coconut oil because of its beneficial properties. It has been shown to be helpful to support gum health.

The best time to do this is in the morning, and it is best to do it several days in a row to get improved benefits.

Remembering to do this isn’t always easy, but I discovered an easy way to remember. Young Living’s Thieves AromaBright Toothpaste has a coconut oil base! So I just take a pea-sized dab and start swishing, jump in the shower and swish away! After my shower, I spit it out and rinse my mouth. Then brush my teeth with the AromaBright Toothpaste.

I also discovered another way to kick it up a notch! Add a drop of Peppermint Essential Oil or Thieves Essential Oil, or both. WOW, does my mouth feel fresh after that! Give it a try! It’s a great way to start your day!

Dental Care without Fluoride

Dental Care Naturally

So here’s a good question: If we’re not supposed to swallow toothpaste because it contains fluoride, then why do they put fluoride in the water?

There is a lot of research that has proven fluoride is not safe for us. It is actually poisonous to our bodies. A quick search will yield more information than you probably have time to read!

Now think about this: The tissue in the buccol cavity of our mouth is some of the most absorbent tissue in our body. So if your toothpaste contains fluoride, then guess what you are ingesting? That’s right! Fluoride in a tasty concoction for the unsuspecting consumer!

Why not check out Young Living’s awesome selections of natural toothpastes? Not only are they safe, they also taste good and contain essential oils known to support a healthy lifestyle!

Since I switched from another brand of “natural” toothpaste to the Thieves toothpaste, I have had better dental check-ups. You might be pleasantly surprised too!

Dangers of Triclosan

Have you ever thought about what is in your hand soap or toothpaste? Most people take for granted that these products are safe and use them without much thought.  Some have heard of the dangers of Fluoride and SLS, but have you ever thought about Triclosan?

I encourage you to do your own research on Triclosan and then check the ingredients in your soaps and toothpaste. Keep in mind the ingredients listed on the label may not be a complete disclosure of everything that goes into the product. Proprietary secrecy allows that not all ingredients are required to be listed.

Then take a look at the ingredients in Young Living’s personal care products, keeping in mind that Young Living is a full disclosure company. You can trust the labeling and know that all the ingredients are safe. This is why I trust and use all the Thieves personal care products.

Back to School Dental Check-ups

Dental Checkup anxiety

As summer begins to wind down, many families begin preparations for their children to go back to school. Often this routine includes a dental check-up. Many children have a certain amount of anxiety associated with going to see the dentist.

Recently I read a short article in the April 2014 issue of Natural Awakenings Magazine (page 10) describing a study where aromatherapy was used to test whether it could help reduce anxiety associated with visits to the dental office. The study revealed that children receiving orange oil aromatherapy experienced significantly reduced heart rates, and lower salivary cortisol levels compared to those who did not receive the aromatherapy. The findings corroborated findings from a 2000 study done in Austria.

A couple of thoughts came to mind. Young Living carries orange essential oil and it is very inexpensive. Orange oil is also one of the ingredients in the Peace & Calming blend. You may want to check out these options for your child’s (or yours, for that matter!) next dental visit!
