Refreshing Summer Beverages

Lavender Lemonade 3339

I love smoothies, but when the summer heat and humidity start to sizzle, there is nothing like a cool, refreshing glass of lemonade or iced tea. I have a couple of favorites to whip up on those occasions.

These “recipes” are totally flexible according to your own taste!

Lavender Lemonade

  • Several ice cubes
  • 1 organic lemon
(remove the peal if you don’t like the bitter part!)
  • 4 drops YL Citrus Fresh essential oil
  • 4 drops YL Lemon essential oil
  • 4 drops Yl Lavender essential oil
  • Blue Agave or Stevia to sweeten to taste
(I start with 1/3 cup Agave)
  • Pure water to fill your blender

Blend and enjoy!

Peppermint Iced Tea

  • Brew 2 quarts tea using 2 or 3 tea bags
(I prefer YL Slique Tea or a good quality green tea)
  • 2 drops YL Peppermint essential oil
  • 2 drops YL Slique Essence
  • 1 drop YL Lavender essential oil
  • Sweeten to taste with Blue Agave or Stevia
(I start with less than 1/4 cup Agave)

Squeeze out the tea bags in the water, stir in the other ingredients and serve over ice.

Cool and refreshing, while calming cravings and giving added nutrients to your body!

Enjoy your summer, and keep cool with Young Living Essential Oils!

Bon Voyage

20100316_G11_1032

When we travel, we generally do not take our larger “at home” bottles of various personal care products. Most people will go to the store and purchase sample sized products for travel.

The problem for the health-conscious label reader is most of these products are below our standard of purity and safety. They contain numerous toxic ingredients we are not used to using. Introducing toxins to our system while traveling is the last thing we want to do. It increases our chance of getting sick and ruining a perfectly wonderful vacation.

This summer, Young Living Essential Oils introduced a travel kit that solves this problem!

 20140625_G11_2351

Live the Dream

20140625_Pod_0187

Last month I attended the 20th Anniversary Celebration for Young Living Essential Oils. What an experience to celebrate, along with over 9,000 other people, the success of this amazing company!

One of the new products that was introduced to us was a new blend called Build Your Dream. This oil blend contains several oils commemorating the 20 year history of Young Living Essential Oils.

These oils are: Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia†), Sacred Frankincense (Boswellia sacra†), Melissa (Melissa officinalis†), Blue Cypress (Callitris intratropica†), Hong Kuai (Chamaecyparis formosensis†), Idaho blue Spruce (Picea pungens†), Ylang Ylang (Cananga odorata†), Dream Catcher™ (Sandalwood, Black Pepper, Anise, Tangerine, Bergamot, Blue Tansy, Ylang Ylang, Juniper), Believe (Idaho Blue Spruce, Idaho Balsam Fir, Frankincense, Coriander, Bergamot, Ylang Ylang, Geranium), Blue Lotus (Nymphaea caerulea†)

I have to say that I am pretty good at identifying quite a few of the essential oil scents, but not as good as a woman I met recently at an antique shop. When she walked up to me and said she smelled lotus, it nearly blew me away!

Blue lotus is an extremely rare and expensive essential oil. Gary Young searched for many years for this exquisite flower. Here are some interesting facts about the oil that comes from this flower:

  • It takes 850,000 pounds for 1 kilo of oil
  • It takes 3 days to gather the flowers for 1 kilo of oil
  • Blue Lotus is the most expensive oil
  • Young Living’s Blue Lotus oil comes from Shrilanka

Now I will tell you that Build Your Dream is my new favorite perfume. It is the most amazing and uplifting scent you can imagine!

There are still bottles of this special oil available for sale in a special commemorative kit that comes with the oil, a lapel pin, a booklet explaining the kit, and a special box for storing up to 16 bottles of essential oils. This is a limited edition collection, so I highly recommend you order it now while supplies last.

Sun Safety

There is a lot of controversy about whether we should expose skin to sun and UV rays. I believe there should be balance in this, as with all areas of life. Too much sun can definitely damage the skin, but we do need a certain amount to help boost our levels of vitamin D3.

The trick is knowing when to cover up. This weekend I was working in the garden. At one point, I realized it was time to protect my northern Minnesota skin from over-exposure. The result was a nice tan and no burn!

There is another problem and that is the toxic chemicals found in most sun screens and sunblock products. I prefer to make my own and have safely used it for several years now. I apply this prior to going out in the sun. Here is my recipe:

  • 10 drops Lavender essential oil
  • 5 drops Helechrysum essential oil
  • 3 drops Roman Chamomile essential oil
  • 1 ounce Avacado Oil

I saw this recipe in the Young Living Essential Edge Newsletter recently. It also looks like a wonderful option.

Sunblock from Stacey Vonn

Now if you over-do it and get a sunburn, you might find some fabulous relief from applying LavaDerm Cooling Mist or Lavender Essential Oil. I only suggest Young Living’s Lavender, as most other brands are cut with Lavindin, which actually can make a burn or sunburn worse. You really need to know and trust your source.

Get back to work, already!

20140627_G11_3159

Returning from vacation has its challenges. There is the challenge of tasks that stacked up while you were gone. There are people to see, places to be and things to do.

I used to dread going back to work after vacation. Looking back I think it was because I would rather have been doing the things I did on vacation than the job I was hired to do by my employer.

This summer I took a lengthy vacation. Well, actually it was a working vacation. First I spent an extended time caring for my ailing mother. After that, I went directly to the Young Living Essential Oils International Convention. I came home tired but inspired. It took me several weeks to catch up on things that had been left unattended while I was gone.

It seemed that life was moving at warp speed. There were not enough hours in the day to complete all the things I wanted to get done, whether for my family and home or for my business and friends. One by one, I tackled these challenges. I felt happy as each was checked off the list.

But I kept thinking of the writing I wanted to do for my blog. Somehow I just could not quiet my mind enough to write from the heart. It didn’t seem right to me to write just for the sake of writing. I wanted to write something of substance; something worth reading. I just couldn’t get motivated to sit down and think and write.

Finally I thought, just do it! Just sit down and start writing. Just do it! Yes, that is what I heard from one speaker at the Convention. Just do it! So today I will begin to write again. Will I get something posted every day? I don’t know, but I will do the very best I can. Perhaps I will write less frequently, but provide more substance. There is so much new information to share with you and I do appreciate your patience while I took this break.

I am not exactly sure where to begin. So I have an idea. I will break out a couple of oils I have not used in a long time. Motivation and Clarity.

If you have used these oils to help you tackle a project you have been avoiding or to bring some focus to your life, please let me know how you used them and how they helped!

Summer break

For the past three weeks I have been traveling. Coming home is a great feeling, but can be somewhat overwhelming. I really wanted to have some great new information ready to share but realize today this is not realistic. I need to have some time to process all the things I learned at the Young Living Convention so I can pass it along in a way that is helpful to you.

Yes, I could continue to do some generic posts for the sake of consistency. But I got to thinking about it this morning. I value your time as well as mine. I want to honor you for being a faithful reader and provide you with information that will be worth your effort to read. So I am going to take a short summer break from posting daily.

I suggest that you go ahead and “Follow” my blog. Then you will receive emails when new information is available.

In the meantime, I hope you also have a fantastic summer filled with all the best from our heavenly father.
